Remote Desktop Canon Printer Install Driver In Use Error Install Update

We setup Remote Desktop Services and made sure options were selected to redirect the local printers on each user's setting. We also made sure the option to block it was unchecked.

They can print to networked printers at their location but can't print to local printers at their location. These are printers that are plugged in directly to their computers or laptops. The drivers are installed on the server. When I look on the server the printer shows that there are documents in the print queue that have error - printing.

An internal communication error occurred. Redirected printing will no longer function for a single user session. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

Locate and then click the following key in the registry: On the Edit menu, click Modify. This enables all ports on the client to be redirected. To work around this problem on a client computer that has a multifunction print device, change the port that the multifunction print device uses from DOT4 to an LPT port.

And I didn't have to install the printer on the remote computer. That was the best part because my users were getting confused. They saw all these printers available to print to because I had installed them all on the remote and they really couldn't print to them because they were either at another location or attached to a different user. This way they only see the printers that are redirected through their connection. Much better way to do this. The work around is to install the driver on the Remote Desktop server and then change group policy so the Easy Print driver is not used first in a Remote Desktop session.

I disabled this setting and it allowed the named printer to print. It even works without adding the registry setting. Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help. If you have feedback for TechNet Subscriber Support, contact tnmff microsoft.

I read the link you provided above prior to posting. Unfortunately, we don't have another server to compare it to, to be able to copy anything from. So I need another solution. Unless someone can post what the registry key should be, I have no way to fix that. I also found out that we are missing the Rdpdr. We haven't applied the RDS licenses yet. We have purchased them and are awaiting their arrival. We are running on the day trial period for now, until those licenses come in, any day now.

When we apply the licenses, will it correct my issues? It is not the exact same issue that we are having but it does patch the files and registry entries that we are missing. In addition, i recommend using the easyPrint feature a native RDS feature for all your local redirected printers.

RDS R2 reference book is now available! I had set the first requirement when we first set this up. The second requirement I checked on and it is also running. I did apply the two hot fixes over the weekend but they didn't fix what I expected them to fix. I am missing the entry in the registry and the file in System 32 but have no where to get them from. How would this work for a Mac?

I need to set this up just like the pc was because of the printer plugged into the local Mac. Thank you also as this will be great for my up and coming battle with setting just like you have above with my lot.

The steps below should sort it. You will probably have to download the printer driver from the manufacturers website to the remote PC and store them in a folder somewhere convenient such as the desktop. Links to the major printer manufacturers driver download pages are available below. Wow… Needed this solution. It was perfectly laid out… I got my client up and running in less then 30 minutes doing everything remotely. Microsoft had a tech article about this, but didnt explain when ONE printer was missing… Fixed them all up thanks to this post which I will bookmark for later.
